Add mathematical symbols

Add mathematical signs to your font or create a separate math font. Combine it with a font for letters and digits and adjust it using formula examples.

1

Choose mathematical signs

In Templates, open Math signs. Choose Create from scratch for a full set or Add basic symbols to extend your font. Deselect unneeded signs and click Add selected.

2

Create and print the template

Click Create template, download the sheet and print it. Keep the original print scale and do not crop the corner markers or QR code.

3

Fill in the template

Write each letter in its own cell with a dark pen. Follow the guidelines, keep letter heights consistent and avoid touching the borders. Scan the sheet or photograph it in even lighting, with all corner markers and the QR code visible.

4

Upload the template to your font

Open Fonts, choose your project and click Upload template. Create a project first if needed. After processing the sheet, review the symbols and save them to the project.

5

Choose a mathematical symbol

Click a sign in the project list, for example the integral ∫.

6

Click Configure in formulas

Open the drawn symbol and click Configure in formulas to see it next to letters, digits and indices.

7

Adjust your mathematical font

Adjust symbol thickness, scale and spacing to match your handwriting. Check vertical positioning and compare several examples, then click Save to project.

For ∫, this example changes the scale (1.32×), thickness (−37%) and vertical position (−0.15 em). Choose your own values using the preview.

Adjust your mathematical font
What can you adjust?
  • General formula settings — the size of the whole formula, the scale and weight of letters and numbers, bracket size and spacing between elements.
  • Math font and individual symbols — the scale, weight and position of math symbols. Adjust the entire math font or a selected symbol and its surrounding spacing.
  • Subscripts, superscripts and limits — subscript and superscript spacing, and the position of limits on sums and integrals: beside the symbol or above and below it.
  • Fractions and roots — the distance from the numerator and denominator to the fraction bar, its length and thickness, and the height and stroke thickness of the root.
  • Handwriting effect — slightly uneven lines and random spacing for scripts and fraction elements to make formulas look more natural.
  • Preview — the example set and zoom level. Underline math symbols or highlight them in color to distinguish them from letters and numbers; this highlighting is only for checking.

Check your changes in the examples and click “Save to project” to use the settings when creating notes. “Reset profile” restores the default values.

Save your changes and use the font

Save drawings and settings to the project. In the notes editor, open the font menu and find My fonts · FontCreator to build a new font or update it after changes.
